Questions About Babywearing
What are the benefits of babywearing?
Babywearing is a practical parenting tool with so many benefits for caregivers and babies. It can:
- Give parents hands-free time to get things doneIncrease the amount of time a baby is held
- Help baby and caregivers bondReduce stress and crying Help with colic and reflux babies by keeping baby upright
- Support healthy developmentIncrease parents’ interaction with their babyIncrease parents’ mobility while caring for a young baby
- Provide comfort to parents and babies (more cuddles!)
- Enable parents to care for themselves and older children while looking after a baby
Is babywearing safe?
All baby items come with suffocation and fall risks – including cots, blankets, prams, and (of course) baby carriers. Even holding a baby in your arms can be dangerous in some situations. That said, if you follow the safety guidelines, choose a baby carrier that’s designed with safety in mind and make sure your baby’s airways are kept clear at all times, you’ll minimise any risks associated with babywearing.
Can I wear my baby after a C-section?
There are a few things to consider when babywearing after a c-section. First of all, ensure the waist belt sits nice and high so you won't risk rubbing the scar. And secondly, doctors often recommend not lifting anything heavier than your baby while you are recovering.
Fortunately, Marsupi carriers weigh just 200-300 grams so they don’t add much weight – and in fact, help to distribute it more evenly. That said, it’s always a good idea to get clearance from your doctor before you start babywearing.
Can I wear my baby while exercising?
You can wear your baby while walking and doing gentle movements.
Marsupi is not designed for strenuous exercise like (but not limited to) jogging, running, lifting, or any exercise that requires you to bend or could cause you to lose your balance.
Can I wear my baby or toddler during my pregnancy?
Many mums wear their small child while growing another little one. It’s safe to do so as long as you are experiencing a normal pregnancy and feel physically up to the task. If in doubt, talk to your healthcare provider.
You may find that the hip carry position is more comfortable so that you don’t put too much pressure on your belly. You may also need to adjust the position of the waistbelt to accommodate your growing belly, while still following the safety guidelines.
How do you comfortably babywear during hot/humid weather?
Some tips for hot weather babywearing:
- Wear natural, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen for your and babies comfort
- Stay inside during the heat of the day
- Drink plenty of water (and give your baby plenty of drink breaks, too)
- Choose a baby carrier made from natural, breathable fabrics – cotton and linen are ideal

Are Marsupi Baby Carriers safe?
In Australia, there are currently no testing standards for baby carriers. We are tested to European Standards and comply with CEN/TR16512:2015 to ensure our carriers meet safety requirements. To enjoy safe babywearing, make sure you follow the safety guidelines & T.I.C.K.S. Check out our babywearing safety tips here.
Is Marsupi comfortable?
Yes! The fabric in our carriers is soft cotton/linen, and the waist support keeps the weight on your hips, not your shoulders. Plus, wide, low profile straps that cross at the back keep you comfortable for longer, evenly distributing the weight across your body.

After attaching the carrier at your waist, take the tether and put it around the carrier base. Cinch it down to fit comfortably between your baby's knees. Connect the velcro and swivel it around so that the velcro is facing outwards and won't cause any discomfort to your baby. You may need to gradually readjust the newborn tether as your baby grows. Once the full width of the panel fits comfortably between your baby’s knees you will no longer need the tether.
What carry positions is Marsupi suited for?
You can use your Marsupi for front (tummy-to-tummy) or hip carry positions. It is not suitable for carrying a baby on your back. We recommend having your baby face inwards when using Marsupi. Take a look at our instructional videos to see how to set up your carrier.
